Over 40 years of growth and success

HPB is a unique British idea, the brainchild of a small group of investors which rapidly became a proven success.
As the number of investors (Bondholders) has grown, so has the number of holiday properties we have been able to buy or build.
In fact we are proud to say that our growth and success have been driven by our Bondholders, who now have access to over 1500 holiday properties

Pushing forward with developments

It was a year of real growth as HPB began building more properties at Blore Hall, acquired new land in southern Spain to expand El Pueblito de Alfaix and started developing the Coo Palace, HPB’s new development near Kirkcudbright in Galloway. The latter will be converted into 28 cottages and apartments together with an indoor swimming pool and the usual range of leisure facilities.

Coo Palace is open for bookings!

Building work on HPB’s 36th holiday location neared completion and Bondholders were finally able to book their first holiday at the Coo Palace. Originally built by eccentric millionaire James Brown in the early 20th Century for his 12 prize Belted Galloway cows, the transformed site retains many of of Brown’s quirky features, paying particular attention to the Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau and Italian styles that inspired him. In a fantastic position on the south-west coast of Scotland, Coo Palace enjoys incredible views over Wigtown Bay and the Solway Firth.

2020

Weathering the storm

The Covid-19 pandemic affected many businesses during 2020, especially in the holiday and travel sector. Thankfully, HPB fared better than most. With assistance from various Government furlough and grant schemes, HPB kept its head above water using part of the reserves built up over past years for just such an emergency.

The site managers worked to keep properties and grounds looking their best with scaled-back teams and many staff adjusted to home-working.

Due to the support of our Bondholders continuing to refer friends and family and ‘top-up’ their own investment, HPB was even able to keep progressing, albeit at a slower pace, with its various building projects: new villas at Alfaix in Almeria, a restored Trullo in Puglia and an additional studio at Lucker Hall in Northumberland.

Planning permission was also granted for HPB’s latest acquisition, Northway Court in North Devon.

2021

From surviving to thriving

After a difficult start to the year, with many sites still closed due to lockdown restrictions, things took a turn for the better from the summer. Site staff both in the UK and abroad were thrilled to welcome Bondholders back to sites and building work at various sites continued with renewed vigour. Work was underway on seven new properties at Henllys in Anglesey; Alfaix, in Almeria, had a new pool and fitness centre installed; a new property was completed at Coreggia in Puglia.

Northway Court in North Devon

Most exciting of all, at HPB’s latest site, Northway Court in North Devon, construction work began, to provide 18 properties with a clubhouse, indoor swimming pool and reception building.

2022

Back to our best

With the threat of Covid on the wane, HPB seized the year by the scruff of the neck: renewing our commitment to sustainability through the planting of 18,000 trees (and counting) in the Forest of Bowland in support of Her Majesty’s Queen’s Green Canopy initiative; and celebrating her Diamond Jubilee across our UK and overseas sites. After the previous couple of years we felt we all deserved a party!

More properties at Henllys
Work continued on developments across the portfolio – but one project came to fruition: the addition of seven new units at our Anglesey home, HPB’s largest UK site.

2023

The Big 4-0!

While complacency is not in our nature, we did allow ourselves a small (year-long) pat on the back in 2023, having chalked up four decades of developing not one, but two, portfolios: an ever-increasing number of Bondholders; and an ever-increasing number, and diversity, of holiday properties for them, their families and friends to enjoy. Over 1,500 at the last count – a figure that will continue to rise.

A new home in Northern Ireland
In 2023 the Bond secured the acquisition of Ballylinny Cottages – near the coast in beautiful Co. Antrim, within easy walking distance of the Giant’s Causeway. The site, which will initially offer 10 properties (which will increase), gives HPB a presence in all four realms of the United Kingdom.

“A great Golden Wedding present”

Bondholders Mike and Ann St John celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary by taking three apartments at Santa Rosa in Lanzarote. When they spotted that HPB has its very own PADI diving instructor at Santa Rosa they booked all five grandsons onto the scuba diving course. What an inspired decision it turned out to be! They are a superb team and they gave the boys an experience that will stay with them for a lifetime.
