Five top cycle routes in Marmaris

Posted by Luci Ackers on 25 January 2016

Don't hesitate to get out and about while you're staying in Turkey. There are all kinds of hidden gems to discover along the coast and deep in the countryside around Marmaris. Rent a bike and explore some of the places below. Do bear in mind that the area is hilly though, so theses route can be hard going!

Turunç to Içmeler – If you fancy exploring the area, try cycling from one coastal town to another. The road between Turunç and Içmeler will lead you out of town and into the country, snaking through the wooded greenery before entering the streets of your destination. It is a journey of around 8 miles and once you've reached Içmeler you can wander the town, enjoy the beach or discover the local market.

Turunç to Kumlubük – If you head out of Turunç the opposite direction you will reach the next beautiful bay along with the ancient town of Amos, keep following the coast along to reach the town Kumlubük just slightly further round. Though the road stays mostly inland from the coast, there are one or two great sea views at points along the way. Make sure to stop off at Amos to explore the wonderful ancient ruins there. The city wall from this old settlement dates from the Hellenistic period and is still well preserved.

Marmaris to Içmeler – If it is the coast views you are after then between Marmaris and Içmeler runs an 8 km promenade promising beautiful views and easy cycling, and is a good one for any time of year. You can either return the same way or travel back via road inland, to make it a circular route. The circular route would amount to around 20 miles, so perhaps best for a cooler day!

Karaca – See the other side of the Marmaris Peninsular by exploring the area around Karaca, which is a town looking out over the Gulf of Gokova. A cycle route will start from the bay just south of Karaca and lead you inland towards Yesilbelde Köyü, before rising again and looping up through the countryside to Karaca. You'll get to admire the coastline, and beautiful blue water from the bays.

Marmaris to Datça – This is a long distance route and would be taken in stages. It offers you the opportunity to experience the popular coastal city Marmaris, with its harbour and shops, before heading inland from the bay and making your way down the peninsular, through the countryside south to the town Datça. Here you can admire the beautiful coastline and will see why this place is so popular with tourists visiting by boat. There are many coves and bays to explore.

Enjoy Marmaris yourself and visit all of these beautiful spots. Follow the link below to find out how! Or simply enter your details at the bottom of the page.
