Garrucha is a great place for lovers of golf. There is a course reasonably close to the town called the Marina Golf Club and this sits roughly half way to Mojácar. The course is flat and green and well maintained. As you play alongside the coastline you can enjoy spectacular views of the surroundings too.
Slightly further north you'll find the Desert Springs Golf Course which is great for the whole family and has good facilities. It is Europe's only Desert course and is well managed with fine turf and fast greens. It is a pretty challenging course with dry river beds, rocks, streams and strategically placed bunkers and cactus plants. It is well known as one of the better courses in Spain and is good for both amateurs and professionals. The course and its accompanying facilities were recognised by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation when Desert Springs hosted the Spanish Amateur Open back in 2004. There are over 100 bird species to look out for and of the 150,000 cacti, over 200 different species are cultivated in the site's nursery.
