Bioparc Fuengirola is an interesting and educational zoo right in the heart of Spanish coastal town Fuengirola, near Málaga. The park's zoological rationale was to recreate natural habitats that emulate the ecosystems we'd find in the wild. It focusses on the importance of animals living side-by-side and coexisting both inside and outside their own species group. The aim is to educate visitors in the relationships and hierarchies of animal societies and, in doing so, generate a respect for all elements of nature and the preservation of natural species. The park also works with a number of conservation schemes and breeding programmes.
Bioparc Fuengirola is full of wonderful and exotic animals all living in relaxing environments that can be subdivided into four main areas: Africa, the Indo-Pacific, Asia and Madagascar. These areas are recreated by the themed design of embankments, waterfalls, rocks, trunks and trees. The range of mammals includes lemurs, gorillas, tigers and a hippo, among many others. There is also a collection of reptiles and a number of exotic birds that often take part in wonderful displays.
The park is well laid out and easy to walk around, beautifully merging one habitat to another. It provides visitors with good views and a great insight into the animals' way of life. You can watch the displays, take part in the educational tours, discover the different exhibitions and special event days. It's great fun for both young and old and located just over half an hour away from Bena Vista. Take the A7 into Fuengirola and the park is right in the centre on the Calle Camilo José Cela.
It is generally open for most of the year, but do check dates and opening time on their website, just to be sure.
