Longleat has long been one of the UK's favourites, renowned for being the first drive-through safari park outside of Africa, and a pioneer in animal enclosure design. Set in a parkland of 900 acres, Longleat was able to create natural animal enclosures that allowed space, freedom and interaction amongst its inhabitants. There are over 100 animal species to see at the safari park, native to areas across the globe. Almost five decades after it first opened to the public in 1966, this incredible place is still making a name for itself.
There is always a range of events and activities taking place that aims to keep all ages engaged and entertained during their visit. These include shows, animal experiences, daily feedings, VIP treatment and tours of the historic Longleat House. There are plenty of places for food and drink so you wont have any problems making a day of it.
Christmas time at Longleat is no different: there is still a range of things to see and do, but during the festive period it gets even more exciting!
Come the run-up to Christmas, Longleat hosts something called The Festival of Light and decks itself out in colours and lights for Europe's largest ever display of Chinese lanterns. There are hundreds to discover throughout the estate, all hand crafted in silk. Keep your eyes open for them as you wander and then visit the authentic Chinese artisan market to find traditional gift ideas.
Little ones can also enjoy the Santa Express and meet the man himself to receive a present. In front of the magnificent Elizabethan country house is a large ice rink that offers the chance to skate to great views, or venture inside and meet your favourite fairy tale characters. This Christmas is sure to be filled with magic for all ages at Longleat. Take a look at their website to plan your visit > www.longleat.co.uk
