Discover Buxton – Tours in Derbyshire

Posted by Luci Ackers on 3 March 2015

Buxton is a pretty spar town in Derbyshire that can boast a large range of interesting and historic sights. The town has been occupied since Roman times and Roman baths were constructed for the natural warm spring that forms near the River Wye. These naturally warm waters prompted the development of Buxton into a spa town in the 18th century and The Crescent which was constructed in the 1780s was modelled on Bath's famous Royal Crescent. Even today St. Ann's well, which has probably been visited since the Middle Ages, is still a tourist attraction and is fed by the town's famous geothermal spring.

The 'Discover Buxton' tours are ideal for exploring the town and learning a little more about the heritage. The main tour is called The Wonder of the Peak and takes passengers on a journey through the life and times of Buxton, focussing on the local landmarks. It's an eight-passenger tour on a vehicle that has been made to look like a Victorian tram decorated with period advertising but is, in fact, a lovingly converted milk float! Also popular is the Tudor Tour, a walking tour illuminating Mary Queen of Scotts' time in the town, and the Explorer Tour which is a walking tour that navigates the hills and green areas around Buxton, tracing the natural history.

There will be a tour to suit everyone, but they do come in a range of prices and lengths, so do check the website to see the whole range.
