The Great Trossachs Forest National Nature Reserve
You may remember us introducing you to the Great Trossachs Forest National Nature Reserve earlier in the year, in THIS blog post.
This incredible place is currently the UK's largest National Nature Reserve and is an ongoing project, backed by the Forestry Commission, the Woodland Trust and the RSPB.
The aim, over the course of 200 years, is to restore an area of 160 square km back to the native Scottish forest environment that once would have been here. This will incorporate a vast range of habitats such as woodland, open ground and loch shore. It will sustain a variety of ecosystems, encouraging a diverse range of mammals, birds, invertebrates and other wildlife to thrive. The project will aid the conservation of a huge number of species.
So far there has been a lot of success for the Great Trossachs Forest. It has seen great public involvement with an increase of visitors using their trails, and a visible increase in wildlife numbers too.
360º Virtual Tour
You can find new projects being announced and constant updates on the Great Trossachs Forest website. A recent addition was their 360º Trossachs Tour. This is a virtual tour showcasing a selection of some of the most stunning areas of the reserve. It uses images that have been captured over the course of the last two years, meaning that from each of the vantage points you can view through 360 degrees and watch how the location changes with the seasons. It allows you to see some breathtaking areas of this unspoilt landscape as though you are really standing in them. Take a look at the 360º Trossachs Tour here.
