All Creatures Great and Small returned to Askrigg last weekend! On Saturday 14th March, the Kings Arms pub saw a fantastic turn out for the 1930s/40s weekend that took place in memory of Lynda Bellingham.
The Kings Arms, an 18th century former coaching inn was once the setting of 'the Drovers', the village pub in the hit BBC series All Creatures Great and Small. The series was originally filmed in Askrigg in the Yorkshire Dales during the 1970s and 80s and was set during wartime England.
Lynda Bellingham, one of the stars of the show sadly passed away with cancer just before Christmas 2014 and the Kings Arms went all out for a themed memorial evening last weekend. The entire pub was transported back in time to the 1940s, and the 'Drovers' rose again for this fantastic evening reenactment. Even the pub sign at the front was changed. Everyone dressed up for the event, old posters decorated the walls and, thanks to a small entrance fee, £3,000 has been raised so far for cancer charities. It was a fantastic night and everyone involved had a brilliant time while supporting a worthy cause.
