Over the winter months at Santa Rosa, guests have been able to get involved in the Monday afternoon craft sessions.
Chris Ewington has been holding these sessions, helping out with design and various craft and sewing activities to raise money for a local charity in Costa Teguise. So far the craft sessions have raised an impressive €1575. In March 2015 this enabled €1350 to be donated to COSTA VIDA, a newly registered charity in Costa Teguise which aims to support 14-30/35 year olds, bringing together young people to help provide them with life skills. One of the first projects was to create a magazine and weekly meetings will be held to take this initiative forward. Additionally Chris has been raising money for the Anglican Church on Lanzarote and a donation of €225 has been made through making, selling and teaching ribbon crosses.
This achievement wouldn't have been possible without the guests of Santa Rosa who came along and Chris has said how grateful she is to all the contributors who have been involved in the craft sessions and helped to raise such a substantial amount for such worthy causes. She also mentions Deirdre MacDonald, manager of Santa Rosa and her assistant Carolina who helped to host the Monday afternoon sessions (even providing delicious cake!). Come the autumn Chris hopes to return to Costa Teguise and carry on raising money for charity with her fellow crafters.
