Hilary, manager of St. Simeon, knows all the hidden beauty spots nearby. The countryside is full of fantastic places to visit and she was really excited about this particular garden. She has made it her mission to bring visitors to explore this lovely place.
Le Jardin Pépinières du Pont du Jour was created by François and Christian Bougnoux who started work on their dream in 1982. The ensuing years saw the gardens begin to take shape and they now form a wonderfully tranquil place for guests to relax in. There are a number of different areas to explore, a range of beautiful plants and some lovely views of the surrounding Siene-et-Marne countryside.
But this is not just any garden. It's a garden with a twist…
Amongst the greenery and nature, you'll find grounds that are full of interesting sculptures and artefacts. François and Christian support a selection of local artists and their 6-acre grounds are adorned with weird and wonderful crafts: mirrors hanging from trees, willow sculptures, carvings and metal objects. The natural and the man-made come together in this garden in the most unusual, and beautiful way.
On site there is a little wooden artist's cabin to browse and a shop, so you can purchase your favourite plants, or even the artwork if a certain piece has taken your fancy. There are little bits and bobs for both inside and out and a café too – so you really can make a day of it here.
The gardens are located in Verdelot in Siene-et-Marne. They are closed during the winter months but are open most days of the week for the rest of the year. Opening times do change depending on the month, so you might want to double check the website before heading there.
