Two of our guests, Stephen and Nigel Murby Wright, have recently embarked upon a European tour that is covering Paris, Vienna, Salzburg, the Algarve, the Dordogne, and the islands of La Gomera and Lanzarote. Taking place over the course of almost a whole year, their adventure began at the end of 2017 and they’ll return home to Scotland in September 2018.
We’ll be keeping up to date with them along the way, so watch this space for news on their latest tips and adventures!
Their first stop was in Paris, just a short distance from St. Simeon. And though it was a relatively short stay before they continued on to Austria, they told us how easy the journey had been!
“Why fly?” Says Stephen when we asked about their travels. “We took the overnight Caledonian Sleeper train from Inverness station, reaching London for breakfast and then jumped onto the Eurostar in time for lunch in Paris. It was great!”
And Paris is so easy to get to from St. Siméon if you fancy a day trip while staying. The train journey takes just over an hour. Coulommiers station is only 10km from St. Siméon (plus parking is free there), and you will be delivered directly into Gare de L’Est station in Paris. Easy!
“There is so much to see and do in Paris”, Stephen recalls. “We were just around the corner from The Louvre, within a short walk of the Notre Dame and there were little cafés everywhere!”. One of their highlights was the ‘Musée des Arts et Métiers’ which can be found in the 3rd Arrondissment and houses a great collection of arts and crafts, inventions, scientific instruments and much more. It is located in what was the priory of Saint-Martin-des-Champs.
