The guests staying at the lovely Santa Rosa, in Lanzarote's Costa Teguise, have the opportunity to take part in various activity clubs. But one sure favourite is the Bodega Wine Excursion. This full-day excursion is fun and educational, giving guests the chance to watch the wine-making process take place from vine to bottle.
During the day's events you will be taken through the local wine growing region of La Geria, which may not be what you would expect from a vineyard; like the rest of Lanzarote, La Geria has ashy-black soil and the vines here are grown in shallow pits protected by low semi-circular drystone walls. Located at the edge of the Timanfaya mountains, the surrounding landscape and distant peaks provide a very picturesque backdrop.
You will be able to see the unique landscape and the cultivation processes for yourself and may even get the chance to harvest some grapes if the season is right for it. After this you will have a tour of three traditional wineries (or bodegas), you may get to meet the winemakers themselves. Here you will learn about the specific history of viticulture on Lanzarote and at each winery you have a tasting session of the best wines of the year, complimented by traditional homemade tapas.
This is a fantastic day out and very educational as well as a lot of fun. If you are interested in staying at Santa Rosa for yourself and taking part in one of the excursions simply follow the link below to find out more.
