It was a difficult winter for Cumbria with terrible amounts of flooding sweeping the county at the end of 2015. Ivy House Hotel was unfortunately one of the many buildings affected by the floods and the devastation caused a lot of damage.
The hotel had to undergo a lot of repairs, but this meant there was good opportunity for a bit of a makeover, and after several months of building work the hotel has now reopened, beautifully refurbished.
“What could have been a disaster has turned into a fantastic opportunity!”, says Rosie Johnson, of Conker Interiors, who was in charge of the redecoration project. There was always a slight topsy-turvy feel to the layout with the accommodation on the ground floor and the restaurant upstairs. So this is one of the things that has now changed.
The redesign has also meant that the general feel of the whole building is a lot more spacious. There's a new, modern colour scheme which really compliments the character of the rooms and the hotel's position, and all of the bedrooms are completely different and very charming!
The new restaurant and bar are on the ground floor, as are the kitchens, which has made room for two lovely lounge-rooms. The new design is looking wonderful and we've been thrilled to hear a few guests have already commented on how impressed they are with the changes.
