'Stage 1 Cycles' in Hawes
A new cycle centre has opened close to Askrigg just in time for the Tour de Yorkshire, which is taking place throughout the county at the end of April 2017.
Stage 1 Cycles is located in Hawes on the quaint platform of the old Victorian railway station. Here in the heart of Wensleydale and the Yorkshire Dales the centre is ideally placed to encourage access to the National Park bike routes for everyone and anyone.

What’s here?
This is a family run cycle hub that does everything. You can buy or hire all kinds of equipment and goods, bikes, accessories and clothing. The team really know their stuff and are great at advising, offering help, sorting repairs and sharing their knowledge. Whether you’re a professional biker, or just starting out they’ll be able to suggest routes or help you with ideas and new destinations to explore.
They also provide guided rides! So if you want to get out there amongst the Yorkshire hills and see some of the famous countryside, but you feel more comfortable with an experienced rider, you’ve come to the right place. Each of the instructors knows the hills and paths like the back of their hand and tailor their rides and tours to each individual group. There is also a free weekly shop ride for over 18s. So plenty of opportunity to take to the saddle.
Eat and drink
Stage 1 Cycles has a great cafe on site called the Firebox cafe and here you will find a lovely range of hot and cold food and drinks to have in or out. They’re really proud of their locally sourced ingredients and freshly prepared cakes and and excellent coffee! So why not stop for a bite to eat or browse with a cuppa?
How to find them
Hawes is just over 10 minutes from Askrigg by car (or you could cycle it in about half an hour). It is off Brunt Acres Road, close to the Dales Countryside Museum on the site of the old Railway Station.
