Our Top 5 Favourite Walking Routes near Langton House

Durlston Country Park

This route is short but sweet! It is a 3 mile circular walking route which takes you around the beautiful Durlston Country Park. It begins at the car park and takes you past Durlston Castle and to the coast at Durlston Head. You then join the South West Coastal Path for the lovely walk to the lighthouse, travelling past some caves and the Great Globe (one of the largest stone spheres in the world). From the lighthouse you head inland to the Nature Reserve where you'll find a variety of wildlife including butterflies, birds, moths and wildflowers.

Rodwell & Legacy Trails

The Legacy Trail begins at Weymouth and finishes at Portland, it follows a disused passenger railway line, which is now an amazing, very accessible wildlife corridor. The Rodwell Trail, which takes you from Weymouth to Ferrybridge, is a fully surfaced route suitable for scooters, bicycles and mobility scooters. It takes you right past some of the old station platforms and Sandsfoot Castle, with lovely views out across Portland Harbour. This trail is brilliant for wildlife with lots of birds, plants, butterflies and other insects along the route.

The Avon Valley Path

This route is 34 miles long and takes you from Salisbury to Christchurch Priory and the sea. It has been open for 22 years, and is named after the River Avon whose course it follows. The path has been divided into 5 sections, each providing a really good day out. They include some water meadows that are buzzing with wildlife, high chalk downland with amazing views, peaceful village pubs, a cathedral city and plenty of relaxing picnic spots for sitting to watch the New Forest ponies. You will be spoilt for choice along this path!

Wareham Forest Way

This route stretches from Wareham to Sturminster Marshall. The Wareham Forest Way travels through some of the less well known landscapes of north Purbeck and East Dorset. There are breathtaking views and shady glades, an Iron Age Hill Fort and lots of wildlife, making this a truly memorable walk. You can start the walk at either end of the route as it is signposted in both directions. From Sturminster Marshall you can join the Stour Valley Way or North Dorset Trailway to explore the rest of Dorset. It is a 13 mile one way route but can be split into short sections.

Studland and Ballard Down Round Walk

A circular walk with breathtaking panoramic views across the coast and countryside. The route starts in Studland and follows the South West Coast Path before travelling along Ballard Down. This walk includes a large amount of access land crossed by public rights of way. It is 4 and a half miles long and takes around 2 hours to complete. The area is owned and managed by the National Trust and is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The South West Coast Path starts and finishes at nearby South Haven Point and The Purbeck Way walking route also crosses the area.
