Fête de la Gastronomie this September
To celebrate its fantastic culinary heritage, and recognition by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity List, a countrywide festival of all things foody takes place in France at the end of September. Now in its fifth year the Fête de la Gastronomie is occurring over the weekend of the 25th, 26th and 27th September, and this year's theme is Creativity and Audacity.
The festival is an excellent opportunity to bring together food professionals and the general public to have some fun. A large programme of events including cooking demonstrations, recipe competitions and lower priced tasting menus in top restaurants will be fuelling the long weekend, along with much, much more. There will be a wide selection of venues taking part so it's certainly worth checking out if you're staying in Constant, Hilguy or St. Siméon.
UNESCO created its List of Intangible Cultural Heritage as a way to safeguard those important parts of our culture that aren't material (such as sites and monuments). France has embraced its status, making sure to host a wonderful festival each year and reinforce its title as a culinary hotspot. The idea is to celebrate and enjoy French gastronomy in all its diverse forms and there will be the opportunity to try new flavours, learn from professionals, explore new skills, watch demonstrations and competitions, visit exhibitions or take part in guided tours. It's looking to be a great weekend and the extensive list of events is being updated regularly. View it here.
