Lowther Castle is situated in Penrith towards the north of the Lake District National Park. It's grounds are surrounded by beautiful scenery, making it an ideal location for the Lowther Show which takes place on the estate during the summer and showcases the very best of Cumbrian heritage from food to farming to country living.
The Lowther Show takes place this year over the weekend of the 15th and 16th of August. It promises to be a popular show with a range of events and demonstrations taking place such as the hound show, motorbike displays and horse shows.
You will have the chance to browse hundreds of stalls and exhibition stands and the interesting craft marquee. There will be plenty food and drink on offer over the weekend in the form of the 'Taste Cumbria Food and Beer Festival' which provides all sorts of delicious treats to sample from a 'posh burger' to a traditional Cumberland sausage, and cooking demonstrations over the course of the weekend too.
What to expect
The Lowther Show is a celebration of Cumbrian life and so there is a selection of different activities and competitions that you can get involved in.
Watch the various dog shows or even enter your pooch into one if you're feeling confident! Try your hand at some survival skills with ex-SAS soldier Bob Podesta, learn the art of fly fishing, have a go at clay pigeon shooting or even try falconry. There's a great range of things for the younger visitors to get involved in too with archery and bungee trampolines.
There's so much to see and do that you may want to round off your visit by relaxing to the sounds of the Lowther Folk Roots Festival; there's a great line up for the whole weekend, with a number of performances on both days, so kick back and enjoy some traditional folk music while you're there.
