Walking in the Lake District

Posted by Luci Ackers on 25 May 2017

Nordic Walking

Try something a little different at Ivy House this time around. The Lake District is right on your doorstep so if you fancy shaking things up a little during your next adventure in the countryside, give Nordic walking a go!

Nordic walking is sometimes mistakenly considered a winter sport enjoyed in the likes of Austria or the French Alps. But that’s not the case!

Nordic walking is in fact a style of walking that is used as a work-out exercise. A special technique is applied and walking poles used to increase muscle movement and development, toning the upper body while still working the leg muscles. It’s really good for you! The poles reduce pressure in your knees and joints and propel you forward so that you can move faster and get further but without feeling as strained. The exercise is really good for your heart and lungs and can be enjoyed anywhere by walkers of any level.

Close to Ivy House the Whinlatter Forest Park is an inviting mountain forest in the Lake District that is great for outdoor activities. If you’re interested in trying out Nordic walking take a look at Nic’s Nordic Walking classes. You can join a free 45-minute taster session to see if it’s for you and to find out more about the activity. Check out the website for booking information.

The Whinlatter Forest Park is a great place to start out because you are able to take in stunning surroundings as you go. It is home to an assortment of nature and provides great views over Bassenthwaite, Derwentwater and Keswick as you walk.

You can make your way to the visitor centre where there are staff members on hand, information and facilities. It is just a 10 minute drive from the village of Braithwaite along the B5292 and there should be sign posts to follow. Take a look at the website for further information.

Or if you fancy staying at the Ivy House Hotel in Braithwaite simply enter your details at the bottom of the page to receive a free brochure.
