Salmon season is underway in Stirlingshire
Monday 1st February marked the opening of Stirling Council's salmon fishing season on the River Teith. Every year a piper-led parade makes its way down Callander Main Street to the river bank. Once officially opened, a competition takes place to determine the first salmon caught this spring. This year a special guest arrived to get stuck in.
Survival expert and conservation enthusiast Ray Mears was a part of the day's events, he joined the marching anglers down Main Street and was the one to officially open the fishing season. Tigh Mor's maintenance man Neil St Quinton was on hand, armed with his camera, to see the events unfold. He mentioned how the Callander Meadows car park was flooded from all the storms, meaning people were actually fishing from the park benches! He took some great shots of quite a surreal sight.
At Tigh Mor the fishing theme continues throughout February with free fly fishing on the Lochan and fly tying demos provided for guests by Neil himself on Tuesday evenings. Don't forget the Loch Achray is just a short wander from the grounds of Tigh Mor and is also really well stocked. Neil himself enjoys fishing here and swears it's great for brown trout and pike… as he proves.
