Discover Île de France

The Île de France, with Paris at its hub, lies at the very heart of French history and culture, taking in Reims and Fontainebleau, Senlis and Chantilly, Rambouillet and Chartres, and of course Versailles. Here, set on a gentle hillside near the village of St. Siméon – some six miles east of Coulommiers – is Le Mont de St. Siméon, a development of 39 beautifully appointed holiday properties set in an attractive courtyard overlooking the valley of the river Grand Morin.

Near St. Siméon, the Champagne region around Reims and Epernay offers easy motoring through pleasant wooded countryside. Further afield the attractions include the Palace of Fontainebleau, a favourite hunting residence of the French Kings, and the internationally renowned painters’ village of Barbizon. You are also within easy reach of Paris by road or rail.

Visit exquisite castles and palaces

If you have an interest in French architecture and history, then you’ll want to visit some of the many royal palaces and castles near St Siméon. One of the largest royal palaces is Fontainebleau; surrounded by a forest, it was much-loved by French kings, and it’s easy to see why.

There’s also the chateau at Vaux-le-Vicomte, the architects of which went on to design the Palais de Versailles, which is larger in scale but not quite as exquisite, some may argue. We’ll let you decide!

If it’s a castle you wish to see, then visit the Château de Blandy les Tours – a feudal castle with medieval fortifications, which were added during the Hundred Years War.

Drink plenty of champagne

It would be rude not to drink champagne when you’re so close to the region in which it originates. Les Grandes Marques, where the bubbly is produced, are often open for tours, where you can see the champagne aging in tunnels and caves underneath Rheims. Of course, at the end of the tour you’ll get to sample the result!

There’s also a champagne-tasting excursion at St Siméon, which takes place every week.

Eat your weight in Brie

France is famous for cheese and Brie is produced throughout the Île-de-France region. We thoroughly recommend giving Fromagerie Ganot in Jouarre a visit! You’ll definitely want to take some home with you.

Take the kids to a theme park

Children and adults of all ages love Disney, so why not treat the whole family to a day at Disneyland Paris? Alternatively, there’s Parc Astérix, which a theme park based on the characters created by Albert Uderzo and René Goscinny. There are fantastic rides and shows at both for kids and adults of all ages.

Enjoy the romance of Paris

France’s capital is just 60km away from St Siméon, so you’ll no doubt want to pay it a visit at some point during your holiday. Make sure you tick landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and Arc de Triomphe off your list of things to see and do while you’re here.

If you’ve seen them all before, then why not just go for a walk through the city and stop somewhere for a glass of wine or coffee? Paris is one of the best places to watch the world go by and perhaps even propose to that someone special!

Long-stay holidays

If you want to stay for longer than a week at our lovely property (and why wouldn’t you?), then you can do so out of season by taking advantage of our concessionary long-stay holiday specials. For more details, please refer to our brochure or get in touch with us.

Shops and restaurants

Nearby Coulommiers and La Ferté-Gaucher offer supermarkets and restaurants, of which there are also plenty in the surrounding towns and villages.

On-site facilities

The clubhouse has:

  • an indoor swimming pool (10m x 5m)
  • a sauna
  • information room
  • billiards and pool
  • table tennis and table football
  • a laundrette
  • children’s outside play area
  • baseball net

Outside is a tennis court, an outdoor swimming pool and children’s splash pool with pergola (heated 15th May – 15th September).

Properties in Île de France

Le Mont de St Siméon’s proximity to Paris, Disneyland, Parc Astérix and some of the greatest châteaux and historic monuments in all of France means you’ll probably spend less time actually at this site than you might at others! But it’s worth carving a little breathing space out of a hectic schedule; despite all the attractions on its doorstep Le Mont de St Siméon remains a supremely restful place.

The former farm buildings of St. Siméon now comprise 39 beautifully converted properties including a studio, cottages and apartments of one, two and three-bedrooms. Two of the two-bedroom properties have been adapted for accompanied wheelchair holidaymakers and every room has been superbly furnished, each one including a satellite television, a DVD player, radio and direct dial telephone. This site is well located to explore the region’s beautiful countryside and many of the properties can boast excellent southerly views across the valley.

The site also offers an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool, sauna, tennis court, pétanque piste, small children’s play area, and a clubhouse full of games and DVDs.

Apartments

St Siméon offers one, two and three bedroom apartments that have been converted from what was once a collection of pretty farm buildings known as La Ferme du Grand Mont. The majority of the apartments are single-storey properties and, depending on size, they can sleep anywhere between two and six guests.

Cottages

The remaining St. Siméon properties are terraced cottages and these too range from one-bedroom to three-bedroom in size. The cottages are generally spacious and attractive and provide a good base from which to explore the Île de France region.

The region also boasts champagne houses, royal palaces, landscaped gardens and Mickey Mouse.

Things to do in Île de France

Nearby, the fascinating medieval town of Provins, which is a short drive south of St Siméon, is well worth a visit.

Other activities available locally include canoeing and kayaking, horse riding and bike rides along the old railway line. Our quiet country lanes are ideal for walking and cycling.

Châteaux, châteaux everywhere

Located some 50km south-west of St Siméon, the great French château of Vaux le Vicomte was built between 1658 and 1661. Unique at the time, the building, gardens and interior were all planned together as one ‘ensemble’. Architect Louis le Vau, interior designer Charles le Brun and landscape architect André le Nôtre then went on to create Versailles Palace.

Keep driving to arrive at Fontainebleau and its palace, one of the largest French royal châteaux. Many French monarchs built upon the early 16th century structure, arranged around a number of courtyards. The remaining Forest of Fontainebleau is a former royal hunting park.

From Disney castles to royal ones

Children will adore the all-weather entertainment at Disneyland Paris, situated about 30 miles west of St Siméon. Or try the lesser known but equally interesting Astérix theme park (open from April to October), just to the north of Paris.

Château de Vincennes is another massive French royal castle in an eastern suburb of Paris. Constructed in the 14th century by Charles V, it is one of the most important castles in French history, and one of the largest in Europe.

Provins and environs

Nearby, the fascinating medieval town of Provins, which is a short drive south of St Siméon, is well worth a visit.

Africa to France in a day

West of Paris, Thoiry Castle’s African safari, zoological gardens and unique labyrinth will keep the whole family entertained. You could also spend an entire day exploring the palace and gardens of nearby Versailles, as well as the Musée de l’Histoire de France.

While you’re there, head to Elancourt’s France Miniature, a 12,000-acre miniature map of France. Discover the country’s most famous monuments and then buy a regional speciality or craft from the shop.

What people like you say about HPB

“HPB spans four generations”

Little did Ele Hilling’s parents Raymond and Joan Gillbrand know when they became Bondholders in the late 1980s, that thirty years on their great-grandson would be looking forward to his first Bond holiday.

Since retiring we’ve become professional holidaymakers!” laughs Dave, “so far visiting 12 Bond sites across the UK and Europe. We’re very keen on walking and history (and wine) so the locations are perfect. They’re very different but all have the same high quality of accommodation well equipped for self-catering, wonderful helpful staff, and truly impressive on-site facilities.
