The story of The Coo Palace… Set along the undulating coastline of Galloway on the south-west coast of Scotland, this collection of Grade A listed farm buildings were originally built between 1911 and 1914 by former fabric merchant and eccentric millionaire, James Brown, who had retired to Knockbrex and wanted to house his 12 prize Belted Galloway cows (or ‘coos’) in comfort and style. ‘Corseyard Farm’ soon became known as ‘The Coo Palace’.

After Brown’s death in 1920, the palace fell into a state of disrepair and in 1991, the site was put on the ‘Buildings at Risk’ register. In 2015, planning permission was granted to restore and transform the site and work began in 2017 to bring the building up to 21st-Century standards while remaining true to James Brown’s original template – including the striking red roof and tower. In the December of 2019, ‘The Coo Palace’ welcomed its first guests.

This former dairy facility now consists of 26 luxury cottages and apartments with a clubhouse and leisure facilities including an indoor heated pool with swimjet, a sauna, small gym room and games room. Plus we have a small shop selling everyday essentials and high quality local produce. Did we mention the incredible views over Wigtown Bay and the Solway Firth? We look forward to welcoming you to the latest addition to our impressive portfolio!
